South Africa – a golfer’s paradise

Did you know that South Africa as a country hosts more golf tournaments than any other country in the world? And did you know that South Africa has about 500 golf courses compared to United States’ 17,000 courses? So, how come South Africa takes the lead in hosting the most golf tournaments in the world? We might have a clue!

 

There are many factors that makes South African golfing truly unique; spectacular nature and distinct different cultures mixed with a booming infrastructure explains why South African golf is world-class. The country offers ideal climate and a selection of different altitudes which invites the golf enthusiast to enjoy superb weather conditions and practice their swinging from high elevations overlooking the ocean. South Africa boasts a number of world-class golf courses each in their own unique setting, from fairways in the bush where zebra roam free, to coastal greens, where welcoming breezes comes in from the ocean.

Besides the natural aspects, South Africa has also produced some of the world’s most famous players of all time, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Bobby Locke and Gary Player. Gary Player whose golf course is also one of the most famous golf courses in South Africa; the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City. The course hosts the Nedbank Golf Challenge, that has the largest first prize of any tournament in the world.
